I took delivery of an O-Flash adaptor today, a ring flash adaptor that fits onto your existing flash gun. It cost me about £20 ($30) so I wasn’t expecting the world from it. However tonight I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed. Not the perfect catch light, but pretty even light on the face. I slipped another light behind Sam’s head with a pink for some sympathetic rim light, tying in nicely with the neon from the old cinema. I think it worked pretty well, it was nice not to have to worry about a large light modifier in the wind tonight. The ring flash will definitely be staying to hand.

Very different to your normal style – weird, but I like it. I think this year’s project is particularly interesting cause it’s obvious that you’re really pushing yourself constantly to do new and different things. It’s far too easy to settle into a routine of sticking to what works in any creative medium. So basically, fuck you.

As John said, its really cool seeing you experimenting with new techniques in this project. I’ve found those types of modifiers to work pretty well at getting a nice even light for close-up shots with the added bonus of some very cool catchlights. I picked up another version of this type of flash modifier called the RayFlash a couple of months ago and haven’t had a real chance to test it out properly yet. If you combine it with a fisheye lens which doesn’t actually protrude past the ring of light you can get some crazy cool effects. I have some on my flickr stream if you wanna see what I mean.

Nice Shots Nick ..Keep it up.. Looking forward to the next one allready.

Is your Grid a homemade one or did you purchase it ?

As John said – It’s really nice to see some different stuff from you. It constantly amazes me that even when you do stuff that isn’t your “norm” the standard of it is stupidly high.

Have to say I’m not crazy about the expression on her face – but the lighting is lovely!

Nice one Rick! I have never heard of an O-Flash adaptor, but I am going looking now!
