Light Painted Nissan 350z Drift Car for SJB Garage

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Fairlady, right back to the 1970s Datsun 240z. This tidy Nissan 350z is no exception. It’s a street driven drift car owned and built by my friend Sean. I offered to shoot his car for him so he had a cover image for his upcoming car check video — this week we made that happen.

Obviously this was another excuse for me to play with some light painting, and as a polar opposite to last time, this car was white. White was definitely easier than a black car, but it still presented it’s own set of problems. The biggest, probably, was getting an even amount of light across the cars larger panels without losing too much detail in the highlights.

The side shot actually turned out to be my favourite from this shoot. These smaller, closer detail shots work really well for light painting, needing only 4 or 5 layers, vs the 22 layers I managed to accumulate with the full shot of the car.

With nearly 300bhp as standard produced by a lovely sounding 3.5L V6 these roadster makes for an awesome drift car right from the get go. Add a few smart modifications like Sean has and you’re all ready to tare up Santa Pod.
