51 — I Climbed the Tree to See the World

I had a great concept for this weeks photo, heavy rain was forecast all Sunday so I was prepared. But the rain didn’t come, so I waited, & waited a little longer, but it never came.

So I had to come up with a plan B pretty quickly… a long exposure in the cold mixed with a silhouette in front of the fire did the trick!

You say you were prepared for heavy rain, can you tell us how do you protect your camera when shooting in the rain/snow? I’m always afraid of shooting in bad weather and would really like to hear your opinion.

  • Normally I don’t bother. I think the weather seals on the top end Canon cameras is pretty awesome so a bit of water isn’t the end of the world & most of my flashes are in softboxes so they are covered. IF it is crazy rain though I keep a couple of these in my bag though.

Some times I even use them “creatively” — the hazy effect around the edge of this shot is done by wrapping the plastic around the edge of the lens.
