09 — Fawn/Buck/Stag

Shot over to Leicestershire yesterday to visit Bradgate park, it was our first time back since July last year. The long winter has definitely taken it’s toll on the landscape, all the rich greens have turned to subtle brown tones, there was even some snow still lying around despite it reaching 12°C.

The first thing I noticed when approaching this smal  heard was that the deer seemed to be a lot more timid than last summer — I suspect they have seen a lot less people over winter and had got used to having most of the park to themselves. Unsurprisingly the first bit of good weather this year had encouraged hundreds of people to visit this awesome park.

The last time I saw the large stag he was looking a little more majestic & sporting some mighty fine head gear. But now all the stags have had their amazing antlers removed — not sure if it’s to stop them fighting, harvest the velvet or something else… does anyone know?
